And as for the beeps, Monitor goes on standby/black screen,no beeps at all on startup, power light on,PSU + all fans run...but NO beeps,nowt.So if no beeps mean it's goosed,there's no point trying to load any drivers for the mo bo then

Guess it's safe now to bin the old mobo and rob it for parts -

That's the problem with new technologies, it often leaves the old worthless, even when it still works (assuming the CPU is okay).

As far as tossing the old motherboard in the bin, there are precious metals and other materials that are best recycled, rather than ending up in land fills. Check your local recycle centers.
