Hello there
I have just looked at the laptop again and the pins are side by side i need to know looking from the back is the righthand pin + volts or - Volts Regards Andy Quirot
-
Facing the back of your laptop the right pin is + and the left pin is -. For those not used to schematic sysmbols. The right pin is positive and the left pin is negative. Found this out using my fluke vom measuring volts from my power adapter. in case you are using a variable power supply I read 24 volts. give or take a decimal point or two. Let us know if this helps and did you ever try to contact Liam about what he knows, when he changed out his power connector on his rt 686.

Way to go Andy, Thanks for Positive feedback and update. I'm running a 20 gig hardrive in mine out of wifes t-23 IBM laptop. Upgraded hers to 80 gig. I have ran windows 98, 2000 pro, both in Fat 32, After my Vacation my oldest boy gave me his Windows Xp O/S as he just got a brand new Mac Fly whatever. Its a small little mean monster made by Mac that does alot. Installed XP Pro after wiping hardrive and starting from scratch. Running in NTFS now, UsB support to hook up to ethernet through USB port. Touchscreen still works in XP after reinstalling drivers. Later after I finish building my shop I'm gonna tear off the back panel and update RAM to 2 256 MB RAM sticks so it will run almost as fast as my Panasonic CF-48. When you hook up your hardrive go into bios before loading operating system and make sure you run the hardrive detector. Its pretty self explanatory and does it automatically after you prompt it. Save changes after your done into cmos and your off to installing any O/S short of Vista including Linux if you want to. Just make sure the Linux compatability specs match your processor speed, ram, and size of hardrive. Amrel corp. states their laptops are compatible with Linux. Good luck and have fun with it. I certainly love mine.
