    Stuck on default monitor only

    Hi,
I have the exact same problem as this memeber had:http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=26724.The computer is a dell 2400 from a thrift store that I got for my mom, it looks like nothing was ever put on it, and works great except for the default monitor issue. Now I can't install any type of internet software because of the
screen resolution compatibly to download any dell drivers if thats the problem.Monitor does
not show up in the Device Manager. At the end of Memeber(ona28) post he says he has solved the problem but DOESN'T SAY HOW that just wanted to make me pull my hair out.

    Thanks,

    Joey

Can you elaborate on this? How is the screen resolution stopping you from loading drivers?

As with the other thread I'd suggest reloading all your Dell drivers from Dell.

I tried a cd rom from aol dialup and and bellsouth dsl both said screen rssolution is wrong so I can't get any internet service.

When i go to setting-advanced -monitor: to search dell drivers, the" Properties" button
is inoperable. How can one put the dell driver in the computer if you can't download
    the from the web?

Download the drivers to another computer and burn to CD.

What is the BellSouth verbatim error message and how exactly do you get it?

Describe step by step what you are doing.

Basic screen resolution has nothing to do with internet connection.

On another tack you can try Safe Mode with Networking.

When I put the bellsouth cd in, it goes to the steps where it senses the dsl connection but
instead I get (:Unsupported Operating System- You must have a minimun resolution of
800*600 pixels and 16 bit color to run this application.) this monitor only does 8(low bit).

I don't know much about Networking and I don't have a cd burner on my computer.

First off there is no need to use the BellSouth CD. All they do is add advertising crap. And AOL is no better.

Your computer drivers are here from Dell:

    http://support.dell.com/support/topi...NT_P4_CEL_2400

Safe Mode with networking just means you can go online in safe mode. Of course if BellSouth is not connecting it won't matter.

Can you not find another computer to download and burn these drivers?

If not just try setting up your BellSouth connection manually. You do not need their CD.

Click > START > Connect To > Show all connections > Create a new connection > Connect to the internet > Setup connection manually > Connect using a broadband connection / password / etc.

If you get this far then you insert your BellSouth ID and Password etc.

If it really is a monitor issue try another monitor. Is this monitor a CRT? Did it come with the computer? Do you know if it ever worked?

It's a dell monitor that came with
it, also I tried another monitor it acts the same way.

    I will try it manually.

I might have a relative with a cd burner, but the Dell does not have WINZIP or a Download Manager program to open up the divers to install into the computer.

You can download a trial copy of WinZip if you need to.

I do not see that the drivers are zipped:

Yes, I could put WinZip on the dell if I can get the internet on it, if not, can WinZip be copyed on cd too? Tomorrow I will try your way, manally to install the bellsouth DSL.

PS Do you think that it was the Dell drivers that solved (ona28) monitor problem.
