Problem in DVD-ROM Drive
Hi!!!
I have a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S254 Notebook. I had previously had a Toshiba DVD-ROM Drive in that system. For around 5 to 6 years, that drive worked fine. Then a problem occured with that drive. It could read CD-R, but could not read DVD-R and CD-RW. I then got that drive replaced. Few months back I installed "Mat****a UJDA750 DVD/CD-RW Drive" on my system. It was working all fine untill few days back. Now again it is facing the same kind of problem. It is able to read CD-R, but it will not read DVD-R as well as CD-RW. However this time there is no error message displayed. When I insert a DVD-R or CD-RW the drive tries to read it, but in vain. The DVD-ROM drive light blinks for a while (around 1 min). Usually it does not take that much time to read a disk. When i click on my DVD/CD-RW Drive it shows nothing, just as if an empty disk has been inserted. So, what shall i do now so that i get back my DVD-Rom drive working in good condition? I am submitting here my system's Hardware scan report. Also I am giving the details of my BIOS.

Is DMA enabled in Windows for the CD/DVD drive? Not sure which is best really, many have good results on & off... From my experiences.
Have you tried cleaning it with a DVD drive cleaner (DVD similar, but not identical to CD lense cleaner CD)?
Was the drive new? Was it evident to you that it was new? Did you install this?
Not sure what software would cause this kind of disfunction, so I ask the above for this reason.
Also you stated that DMA 1 is selected, I've always used 3, that's DMA channel for your printer port.
I'll try to follow up on it if I am still on when you reply.
:edit: Also does it read normal (uncopied) audio/video CD/DVD's ? :edit:
That's my thought, hope it helps,
Stomp

i don't know if DMA is enabled for my CD/DVD drive. my BIOS does not allow me to change the BIOS settings of DRIVES I/O. I have already posted my BIOS info. For details please check that.
I have not used any DVD drive cleaner. Because someone told me that if your drive is able to read CD but not DVD and CD-RW, then there is no need to use DVD cleaner. Because it is already able to read CD.
I have not installed the DVD. It was installed by a technician. I remember how he installed that drive. It was installed before me. He just opened the laptop casing and plugged in the DVD drive. That's all he did. There was no need to change any BIOS setting. When Windows was started the driver was automatically installed. And I was able to use the drive. I used the drive for probably 2 months. After that suddenly now this problem occured.
However as u said I changed DMA to channel 3 in Parallel Port.
And hey...... what i see.... now my drive is working..... thanks a lot friend.... your information has solved my problem...
