DVD Burner Problem
Ok, A co-worker of mine has a DVD burner issue, and has been asking me to help him out, and all signs point to a driver or software issue, so here's the rundown.
He has a SONY DRU-830A DVD burner, and as of right now, he can watch DVD-movies, and read CD's off it, and it will NOT read a Burnt DVD, or write to a DVD or CD. When he tries to create a CD or DVD, whether its music or data CD, it goes through the burning process, then at the end it sends an error message "Can not open the file"
Why I believe that this is something to do with his Machine/software config, is because when the drive is taken to another PC, it works perfectly fine. Any thought or places to check for some settings, I was thinking something along a Copyright Protection setting that he may have accidentally changed, but i cant find a place where such a setting exists.
Thanks in advance
Joe.

some DVD drives are NOT configured to run burnt DVDs/CDs. burning uses different codecs. however, most DVD burners are, what it might be is he doesnt have the right codec packate, you might try googling windows (type) codecs and download those. and yes, make sure you check the copyright protection settings in your burning software.

Is the "stock Windows" burning utility being used, or is it a third-party burning program (Nero, Roxio, etc)?
One thing to try is to uninstall/delete the burner in Device Manager and restart/reboot. This will cause the O/S to reallocate drivers/resources for the hardware device. (Sort of a "Refresh" based upon the hardware and programs associated with that hardware.)
The brand of media (Sony, Memorex, etc) is also a factor. Have these same CD's/DVD's been successfully used with this device, in this machine, previously?
