    Hardware Problem

A couple weeks ago, I started to encounter a problem which the PC would shut down about 30 seconds to 2 minutes after Windows started up(It kept giving me a fatal error message. Unfortunately i did not write that message down). It got to the point where I could not do anything, it would start up then a minute later would shut down.

So I decided to reformat my Hard Drive and start all over(I have a XP Disk). I put in the XP Disk and after it formatted, it started copying the XP files to my hard drive. There were several files that would not copy over to my HDD, so I chose the skip file suggestion. It was a few .dll files, a couple others, and the win32k.sys file. I figured oh well it looks like I have a bad sector in my HDD so I bought a new HDD. I did the same process, I formatted the HDD, and the XP CD started copying files to my HDD. Same thing happened, It would not copy the same certain files as last time for the most part(I dont think it had trouble copying the win32 file this time).

So a light blue screen appeared on my monitor and it stated,

    Your computer has shut down........................

Then at the bottom it said

    STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF803E1A, 0xF75F6c94, 0x0000000)
    win32k.sys - Address BF803E1A base @ BF800000, Datestamp 41107f7a
    Beginning dump of physical memory
    physical memory dump complete

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much Brain Damage. Turns out it was a memory stick. I had to take one out, and it worked.

I have only 1 gb of memory now, can i buy a different brand of memory and use it with my memory thats in it right now?
