I think my hd seems to be going south, so I put another (sata) in my X2 Athalon XP Media Center machine. It appears in device manager but not in "my computer" and not in disk managment. I bought it OEM so no software and software I've downloaded from Seagate doesn't help me. Drive is Seagate ST3250410AS. I'm sure this has been addressed before but I've been searching forums and can't find answer . thanks

It will not appear under My Computer until you format it.

Yet it should appear in Disk Management for you to format.

Just to verify: is your motherboard SATA II?

If not you need to set the jumper on the rear of the drive to SATA I.

Thanks Jephree, My mb is SATA II, and on further inspection I have discovered the disk listed as "disk 1" in the bottom right pane in disk managment, but not in the upper pane.Right clicking on "DISK 1" gives option to" create dynamic disk"The only option when you right click in the allocation window is "partition", is that the way to format?Nowhere can I get the "format" option to appear in "all tasks".

Jephree, I decided to look again at Seagate software I downloaded and a pop-up window appeared saying there was a new disk discovered, Well,that led me quickly to a way to format from their software. Thanks again for such a quick reply.
