If USB is working the only issue is probably in the BIOS level.
XP is loading its own USB drivers. If USB keyboard/mouse work in the boot and BIOS you should be fine.
I saw the specs but the motherboard is not identified. If you want to run CPU_Z we might be able to trace down the motherboard drivers.

Tell how to run that program and I will be more then happy to.

Just Save it somewhere. I use My Documents in a folder I call Tools.
Anyway Save it then unzip it and run it that is all.

Great software btw, so, I installed that on his computer and here is what the results were:
micro
MS-7184-Model
Chipset-ATI express200(RS480) Rev.10
Does that help?

MSI does not have drivers as that is a board they sell to other manufacturers.
This is the closest they have for themselves:
ATI System Drivers for RS690/RD780/RD790/RX780/RX780/RS740/SB600
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...1&prod_no=1185
I see that HP/Compaq uses that same motherboard:

I see no USB drivers.

Thanks, go figure. Well, I know that USB ports do work because I used my keyboard/mouse when I was working on it. Hopefully, he will be okay.

There are some mysteries in these boxes.
I have a yellow "System Interrupt Controller" that I have never been able to find anything about.
