This might be tedious but boot into Safe Mode and see if the problem persists.

Safe Mode is accessed by tapping F8 after your BIOS POST yet before Windows tries to load. From the options choose Safe Mode with Networking and or just Safe Mode. The difference being Networking loads your LAN driver (internet access) whereas Safe Mode proper will not.

thanks, i will give that a try, is there anything i can check in safe mode? or just leave it on and check if the problem continues?

Just leave it on and see if the time sticks.

Safe Mode loads only the bare necessary drivers to load Windows.

The test here is to see if some other software is messing with Windows.

I will also look up the registry entries again and post them back.

i have had my acer aspire 5633 laptop now for about a year and recently its been losing time/date in windows. ive researched the problem and it seems to be the cmos battery on the motherboard?

my question is how do i find and replace the battery? i have removed the back panel where i thought it was but it is nowhere to be seen. please could someone help with this matter? i have taken a photo on the back if that helps in anyway.

    thanks in advance

I'm sitting here with an acer with the same problem as you guys. Did you manage to figure this out?
