    Boot up issue-black screen

    Hi guys,

    p4 2.8
    foxconn 66IMXPlus
    1gb ram (ddr pc400)
    ati x1650 pro 512mb

Ive got an older system that has just crashed. I found out it was the mobo that blew so i went out a purchased a new one (the foxconn, used to be MSI). Ive set up the new board and tried to power it on. I was not able to see anything on screen (only fans worked) and it did not seem like the hdd was spinning up. I went back to the computer store and told them my problem, they advised me that the cpu maybe shot so i bought a used p4 1.7 just to see if that was the problem. Now with the new cpu the hdd does spin but i am still not able to see anything on screen. Ive tried new ram, using the onboard video, and resetting cmos/bios. I know this is an older system but i really cant afford a new one till im done with school. Any help will be appriciated.

    Thanks

    Any beeps?

Does the monitor get any signal? Such as "No Signal"?

Does the monitor power light turn on? Does it ever go from amber to green?

Boot without RAM and see if it beeps at you.

Ive unplugged the ram and tried booting, the system does not beep (dont think i have internal speaker connected, ive looked for it but it doesnt seem to have).
Also the monitor will not display anything (just stay in standby mode - orange).
Another thing ive noticed is that the scroll and caps lock will stay solid on the keyboard even if i try to turn them off

Most boards have a tiny integrated speaker.

Are you sure the PSU is functioning properly?

Do you have both 24 pin and 4 pin ATX connections in place?

both cables (atx + 24 pin) are in place. Also the pwr supply is brand new (450 watt)

What is the exact motherboard model?

Perhaps take it out of the case and try it that way.

Always a chance you received a dead board.

Also can you verify that your hardware (especially RAM and CPU) are compatible with the board?

mobo - foxconn 661MXPlus (supports 478 socket intel cpus, 233/366/400 DDR)
Ive got 2 processors (p4 2.8, p4 1.7) and an extra stick (works) of pc400 DDR 256mb ram. Ive tried everything I can possibly think of but Im just stuck. Im decent with computers but this is really making me scratch my head.

    Support socket 478 Intel® Pentium® 4 processors (Willamette, Northwood & Prescott)

Are your CPU's Willamette, Northwood or Prescott?

If so there is a chance you received a dead board.

It really should be producing beeps.

I see the board has a speaker connection so I guess you need a case speaker.

Also there is a CPU jumper:

J2 is OPEN at default, which supports the Prescott and Northwood CPU. If J2 is
set as SHORT, it supports the Willamette CPU

hmm...not too sure on the actual model name of the processor (tried looking it up)
    The actual specs are:
    1.8ghz/256/400/1.75v
    sl5vj

Ive also tried setting the jumpers on the board before from willamet to prescott and still same deal.
