    Computer turns itself off, VERY WEIRD.

    Okay, so bare with me, I don't really know about any of the physical technical stuff about computers. Anyways, I own a COMPAQ Presario S3010CL, and have really never had any problems with it, until currently.

    So this is what happens. I will be using the computer for a certain period of time, and then my computer will shut down on me by itself. One important thing to note, is that it will not shut down by just completely cutting the power and resulting in a black screen. Instead, it will actually close all my programs, show the blue screen that says "Saving settings... shutting down..." and then proceed to turn off. Once it has done this, the computer will proceed to turn itself back on, and then back off, on and off, over and over, in intervals of 2-3 seconds.

    Weird huh? So, I did a lot of searching around on the internet, and found two really common possibilities. One was the fans, or temperature of my computer. The fan on the back, the PSU fan, was working fine. With help, I opened up my computer and ran it, so I could see how the other fans were doing. They were working fine, and my computers temperature never went anything above "cool"

    The second thing people were telling me, was a faulty power supply unit. It made sense, so I went out and a bought a new one. It was only $35, so I took a chance. I installed it... and it seemed to be fine, but now it's back to square one. It keeps shutting down on me.

    I'm really stuck, I have no idea what to do. Here's some extra things to note, that I didn't mention above:

    -It happens very randomly. I could be using no programs, one program, or many programs, and it's shut down on me during all instances.
    -It happens very randomly time wise.. Sometimes, I will only have the computer on for five minutes, an hour, or five hours. It has done it all instances.
    -I have all my plugs plugged into a surge protected power/toolbar, and that surge protected power/toolbar is plugged into my wall. I have tried replacing it, and the problem still occurs.
    -I have also completely dusted out the inside of my computer, still the same situation happens.

    Please, if you can think of some more ideas for me, I would be so thankful. I'm getting really frusterated, probably due to my inexperience or lack of knowledge on how to approach this..

    Welcome to D-A-L.

    It sounds as though you've tried some of the basic troubleshooting procedures. The four top reasons for symptoms such as this are;

    Heat
    Power Supply
    Memory
    Malware

    Memory can be tested with either;

    Microsoft Memory Tester
    http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

    Memtest86+
    http://www.memtest.org/

    Have you run/do you run any malware prevention/detection programs?

    If not, you can post a HijackThis log for review by our security experts.

    Follow the instructions here> HiJackThis prerequisites, and then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs Forum.

    Please do not Hijack other members posts. For example, if you are browsing the Forum and see a member has posted a question with a problem very similar to your own, PLEASE DO NOT post in the same thread and say "I have this problem also! please help!" Instead simply click the new thread button and ask your question in your own thread. There are a ton of reasons for this but the main one being that although your problem sounds the same, it will most likely require a different solution.
