Hi, hope someone can help with an issue I have.

Got a PC with a Samsung SM332-B CD/RW DVD ROM, PC is an E-Machines one, using Windows XP Home. When trying to play music CDs in media player no songs appear. When trying to view files (.jpegs) on another CD in Explorer I can see the drive but no files on it ( they are definitely on the CD!). The CD drive does make a strange noise when CDs are 1st placed in it as though it is trying to read the CD. No error messages come up, I can see the device in Device manager, I have reinstalled the drivers and used Windows Trouble shooting but no luck with any of these. Can anyone suggest any other diagnosis I can do or maybe what the problem is - I don't want to replace the drive until I'm certain it is definitely faulty?

do the CDs work OK on other machines?
have you tried a lens cleaner?

Try that drive in different computer.
