I have a dell dimension 4550 and recently I tried to up grade the power supply by buying a Turbolink ATX 2.03 500W PSU. When I intstalled it, the computer would not turn on. I made sure all the connections were right and that when I connected the power I had the case open to make sure the motherboard light came on and it did, but the computer fan did not turn on and no boot up processes were started. Is there anything I can do to make this power supply work?

has the new PSU got exactly the same connection?

Yep all the connections fit the same, I plugged in all the areas that can be plugged in.

It is widely reported that Dell requires its own power supplies.

There is an extra lead required on Dell motherboards which only Dell power supplies supply.
