SATA data transfer rates are over triple IDE.

What is the make and model of the computer?

If you do not know run this scan and post back only what is under Main Circuit Board:

could be, last premanufactured computer I owned was pre-sata, and that was an HP. I really dont keep up on pre-fabed computers anymore cept laptops, im scared to build a laptop. anyway yeah, either way, if its a sata drive no sense buying anything non sata to replace it, IDE port or not.

This happened to me once and I have to say, that the best thing to do is scrap it. There are so many pieces in there of the cd that it is just not worth taking a chance. I agree with the other guys opinions.

    Where are you?

If US I use Newegg for shopping. Nothing wrong with this model from Lite-On:

Unless you want a faster speed.
