SATA data to be copied on new PC

    Hi,

My dad had a PC with SATA hard drive that has recently had hardware failure. The SATA hard drive is fine. I wanted to simply connect this hard drive up to another PC and then copy the data off onto DVD.

Can this be done? if so can anyone give me some tips or a link to a guide so I don't mess it up (as I don't want to lose the data).

The drive was my dad's primary boot drive with Win XP on it.

    Any help would be appreciated!!!

    Best regards,

    Paul

Connect it to your PC and boot up. You'll need to enter the BIOS and set it as a slave since it has an operating system installed on it. Otherwise XP will most likely BSOD before the desktop loads.

As a SATA drive there would be no Master/slave distinction but if you encounter any problem booting just verify in the BIOS Setup that your OS hard drive is still the first drive to boot.

You should have no problem accessing your data. Programs cannot be copied but data: yes.

In case of any Access Denied errors see this page:
