    Exclamation Printer On Strike.

Hi all. Before I start I would like to say, this is the second time that I have had to type this out, and I'm not a very good typist, and when I submitted my first query I had been logged off. Pray tell why?

    Here we go again.

My printer won't print. It is plugged in, turned on, and connected.

When I try to print nothing happens. (EPSON STYLUS D88). Nothing has changed since the last print.

I have tried removing and re-loading the printer and driver, and checked for driver updates.

If I go to "Control panel" - "Printers" and D-click on the printer, the printer window states that the document is printing.

So far the printer has done nothing, not even made a sound. But, If I "cancel" the document the "Print window" says "deleting", and the printer carriage moves back and forth a couple of times, (without printing), then nothing.

So I closed the "printer window", R-clicked on the printer icon and opened the printer "properties", clicked on "print test page", a window opened saying, "A test page has been sent to your printer". Nothing happened. There is also a "Troubleshoot printer problems" link, which says nothing about printer not printing accept about the power lead, and the signal cable. I closed this window, and the "properties" window, re-opened the "printer" window, which says:- DOCUMENT:Test page; STATUS: Printing. Etc.
(Nothing is happening). Again, if I cancel the document the STATUS says "deleting" and the carriage moved.

I think I have said everything. Sorry if I have gone on a bit. But can someone tell me how I can get this darn thing to print please.

Is this the original printer with system or a replacement for one thats previously been hooked up?

I'd first start by checking in Control Panel --> Printers, and make sure that the printer installed is set to the default printer, if for some reason its been changed the pc may be trying to print "somewhere" else.

Check that out and get back us.

Ok, well lets start with the basics, you have checked for new drivers and came up empty, so if there is a way to confirm, this should be the driver package you are using, can you confirm please?

obviously, if its not the one your using, please update and post back.

    cheeres Joe.

I didn't know where to look for the driver, so I downloaded your link anyway. Then restarted my PC. Still nothing.

Whilst looking for the driver in "Device manager", I noticed that there was no mention of a printer. Is that right?

In device manager there should be a printer there, if not in its own tab, in the USB section but i doubt its there.

what USB ports do you have the printer plugged into? the front ones or the back ones on the PC?

I am running vista only on my laptop, and dont have a printer on this PC, so i cant really navigate through vista, if needed i will hook one up to try to help you.

Can you unplug and plug the printer back in and see if the computer detects new hardware plugged in and see if it identifies it correctly?

In "Device manager" under "USB controllers" there is a "USB printing support" tab. If thats of any use.

The printer is plugged into the back of the PC.
When I un-plug and plug in the printer, nothing happens. Accept in the printer window. Where it says "on-line" when plugged in, and "off-line" when un-plugged.

I hope this is of some use.

ok, going back to the origianl post, is there any chance that maybe theres a possible paper jam somewhere where the papers not making good contact with the rollers at the input? like does the printer even try to take the paper from the paper try? Also, you stated that nothing else has changed, so no new software/devices installed recently?

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, real busy.

When I turn on the printer it does the normal thing: The carriage goes to and fro a couple of times.

If I send something to the printer it does absolutely nothing. No movement, no noises. The only time the printer does anything is when I delete the print request, then the carriage runs up and down a couple of times.

    Thats about it.

Do you have a spare printer or a 2nd pc to test this printer on? Would like to be able to eliminate one of the 2 of them as a cause?
