    The HDD is HDD2194 for Toshiba Satellite L20 if and one has spare time on there hands could they have a look for a cheap one for me, all i can find is £100 and above and i cant afford that much, might aswell buy a second hand laptop.

    I see some in the US for $60/$100.

    I doubt that you need an exact match.

    Most any 2.5" drive should work.

    Yes, but will they work with the Toshiba recovery utility CD?

    I don't see why not. I understand that many proprietary recovery disks depend on the underlying hardware but I don't see how a new Toshiba drive would have anything "on it" or "about it" that would distinguish it from any other brand.

    Is it possible to partition my other PC HDD and share that on my network to boot my laptop off it? (with no HD in laptop)
