Oh dear. I think I'm in trouble!

    Hey all,

I received a second hand PC from a friend today, and the whole thing was completely wiped, I had to reinstall windows, the whole shabang. It seemed to be working fine.

However, I did a run>dxdiag (about the most technical thing I know how to do.) and as it turns out, I don't seem to have a sound card. Now, I'm not sure why the sound card isn't there any more but I'm pretty sure my friend had working sound on her PC. Is there any way of sorting this problem out without taking my PC apart and adding a new sound card in? I'm a complete newcomer to PC-Techno-whizz stuff, and I can only see me wrecking it further by accident.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are there speaker or microphone connections on the unit somewhere?

The may be either a sound card in a slot, or onboard sound. If there is onboard sound, it must be enabled in the bios.

And for either, drivers must be loaded.

Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.

Also post what is listed for your Motherboard and Chipset.
