"largest executable program size 442,368" ???
Old Dell Optiplex GX1 400L Intel pentium 2, 400mhz.
Works with a 7gb HD running XP.
I'm trying to put an 80gb HD in ( all fdisked,formatted- no OS ) - but i keep getting "largest executable program size 442,368 ".Not enough Himem?
Any ideas, or is it just too big for this ancient pc? ( it's just a testbed pc )
Cheers, Dave.

how much RAM have you got?
when you put the 80Gb hard drive have you tried to boot from a XP disc?
the line largest executable program size 442,368 ".Not enough Himem is a win 98 problem

which boots me to A:\

when the prompt comes up can you change it to D:\ (or whatever your CD is)
-
no, just a: or c: . D: + E: are invalid drive spec

is the hard drive recognised in the BIOS?
is the hard drive any good?
according to M$
Windows Setup requires the largest executable program size to be at least x,xxx, xxx bytes
This issue can occur in the following scenarios: • The amount of space on the hard disk has been reported incorrectly.
• You installed drive overlay software, but you did not follow the correct installation sequence. For example, you may have to press the SHIFT key or use a similar keystroke combination to start your computer when you use a disk.
• The computer has a virus.
• The computer has failing or faulty hardware.
