    Hello, and Welcome to D-A-L.

    Given your thread title, I gather this is your onboard sound device.

    Are you trying to;
    1) Use it/load drivers?

    2) Not use it in lieu of an add-on peripheral sound device?

    If 1), make sure it's ENABLED in the bios.

    Drivers here;

    http://support.asus.com/download/dow...n-us&model=P5K

    If 2), make sure it's not enabled in the bios
    .

    Post back with your results and any further questions.

    you see my big problem here is that even though it is enabled (in the bios) I can't opdate the drivers. when I try with the file that i already got from asus's site it crashes(right after the instal have unpacked)
    i can "see" the card/chip when am in the "diskmanagement"(running a second language version of xp sp2, you know the place where you can activate or diactivate, uptade drivers for different stuff?) btw when i try removing it, it says it cant because it might need it for starting the pc??

    ".. nor remove it, .."

    You've tried removing the sound device in Device Manager?

    Did you have it disabled in the bios before you tried this?

    when i try removing it in device manager(i quess that what it is called) its tells me it cant, because its necessary for starting up the system...
    I can install the drivers when i have it disablet it in the bios, that doesn't work when i turns it back on...

    Run a file check on the O/S.

    Click START, RUN, type in

    sfc /purgecache

    This ensures that system files are copied from your Windows installation media, and files which may be infected with malware or corrupted are not copied from your drive.

    Then type in

    sfc /scannow

    Have your XP CD handy as you may need it.
