DVD/CD drive cannot read CD/RW disk

I am in the process of writing some valuable family history photo files from my old pc to a CD/RW disc to transfer to my 'new' pc. The files are written to the CD/RW disc ok. However the HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4418B DVD/CD-rom drive does not appear to be able to read the CD/RW disc. It sounds just like a floppy drive opening up, chuntering away. The files are definitely written to the disk as I have opened them on my old pc.

I would be grateful for any assistance.

    Thanks

Hmm, I have a friend with one of those drives, and his stopped reading DVDs. He bought a new drive in the end. I don't think that they're that reliable, cos the LG ones like that in school never work...

This whole forum is based on helping others with advice etc so that they do not need to go through the long and painful processor of tech support.
After all, there are quite a few members on here who are far more experienced than your average tech support, which is what makes this forum so sucessful in helping others
