I have a Compaq Scanner Keyboard that I bought but did not realize at the time that it requires an AC adaptor. The keyboard seems to indicate that it needs a 24V 700mAmp Output power source. I cannot find one so far but did find a 12V 700mAmp Output adaptor. Does anyone know if the fact that they both have 700mAmp outputs means the voltage output would be the same or does the fact one would say 12V and the other 24V but both 700mAmp mean the voltage output is not going to be the same. I am stumped. Thanks for any advice.
Hi GPTDesign and welcome to D-A-L.
Sorry, but you can't use that power supply. The voltage is critical figure there. Your new supply must be 24V. And it needs to be at least 700mA. If you found a 24V 800mA, you could use that with no problem as the scanner will only draw what it needs. You can't however, go over voltage either so don't try, it has to be 24V - no more, no less.
Also, when you find one, you must make sure the connector matches, and is wired the same way. If the center connector is + on the old, it must be + on the new.
Thanks for the answer. Your background in electronics is really substantial. Your input will be valuable for me. I always keep those left over power supplys and have about 20 of them of various voltages and such. To bad I did not have a 24V one with 700mAmp output. Being a pack rat helps often as I usually have one of everything somewhere around my house or shop. Thanks Again and thank you D-A-L.com.

Yeah, I've been zapped a time or two!Your background in electronics is really substantial.
I keep all my old ones too - I also use a silver permanent marker and label them so when I am digging in the box or crawling under my desk, I can see what goes to what.
