DVI-I Source to DVI-D Monitor
Hello! I just bought a DVI-D Dual Link cord to get better video from my computer, just another upgrade. I recently upgraded my video card to a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS OC and it has two DVI-I slots. My monitor is a Gateway FPD2275W TFT LCD Monitor and it has both a VGA slot and a DVI-D slot. I did a little research and learned that a DVI-D cable should work to go from DVI-I to DVI-D, so I bought one. I was previously, and still am, using the VGA cord with an DVI adaptor on the source end of it. When I plug in the DVI-D cord the screen is black and it says No Signal, then shuts off.
Is there somehting I am supposed to configure before I plug it in? Or do you have any idea what else the problem could be? Thanks for you help!

The only difference between DVI-D and DVI-I is that DVI-I also supports analog and can be used with a D-Sub to DVI adapter. There should not be anything that you have to configure. You should make sure you power down both the computer and the monitor before disconnecting/connecting cables, then boot up.
Did you select the correct input source through your monitor's menus as noted in several places in your monitor's manual, such as the first item listed under No Picture under Troubleshooting on page 24?

I got a picture now on my screen with the DVI cable plugged in, but I had to use the slot #2 on my graphics card. The problem is that it rest my display and now it won't let me set it very high, when I try to set it at 1680 x 1050, which is the recommended setting and what I set it as before, the screen just goes black. I wonder if this is a problem due to it being plugged in slot #2 and mybe I should try to turn everything off, connect it to slot #1, and see if it works when I restart everything? Let me know what you think.
Thanks,

If your desktop settings for your graphics shows you are using one monitor and that is monitor 2, it should work. You could try powering down and moving to 1, won't hurt.

I've been trying to mess with but I'm still having trouble. When I try to play any games the screen goes black even though the sound still works so my computer is running it, there just seems to be something wrong with the source to monitor connection.

Try another cable. Know anyone with a LCD DVI monitor you can swap with for a test? That will narrow it down to the monitor or on the PC side.

That's a good idea! I will try to have a friend use it on his computer and let you know what happens.

I got it to work. I just played with the configuration for a while and it turned out to be that the DVI cable couldn't run the resolution I had my computer set on. All it working now and it definatly makes a difference!

Great - glad you got it going. Thanks for the followup.
