I Dont Know What To Do
Hi guys, ive been having a problem with my graphics card. Whenever I play a game it looks great and plays well until about three to five minutes in. Then my characters and enviornment start to distort. Ex: a characters arm will suddenly have a giant grey triangle sticking out of it.
This happens on a new laptop i bought from a friend whom is actually really great with computers, however he as well has no idea what causes the problem.
Besides this problem the computer runs great but it interrups every game i play on it, and thus is extremely frustrating. I have visited ASUS.com (my computer's manufacturer) and updated my graphics driver (becuase Nvidia doesnt keep lappy drivers). I really am at my wits end here and cannot figure out what to do next. I hope this doesn't result in me buying a new graphics card (I dont even know if you can replace a graphics card in a laptop)
here is an example from Team Fortress 2

Some laptops have upgradeable graphics cards many do not.
What is the exact make and model?
Deterioration over time generally indicates a heat problem.
Do you notice a noticeable "hot spot" on the bottom of the laptop.
-
Here are my specs: and the only hot spot i have ever noticed was near my fan, ive learned to keep it clear and as ventilated as possible (becuase it was getting very hot).

No problem. But what is the exact ASUS model?
They have like A1000 M1000 Z1000 etc.
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
Also curious that XP only detects half of your RAM
-
On the bottom of my notebook it says i have
MODEL: A8J
MB Ver :A8JM
And I really dont know why XP would only detect 1/2 my RAM, although it could have been a mistake I made when I wiped my lappy trying to fix the graphics problem, (made everything 0's).
Dang I hope i havn't screwed up my notebook to bad. The guy i bought it from is really good with computers so this might be a custom built lappy (if thats even possible).
BTW thanks for helping, computers can be frustrating
lol
-
There is a slightly newer graphics driver.
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
Select Series A8 then Model A8Jm then + VGA
Worth a try.
-
well, I installed the most recent driver and still no luck.
The problem happenes every time I play a game and it kicks in about five minutes in every time =/. I dunno really but you would think that if it was a overheating issue it would be more sparatic then that. I dunno though im just shooting in the dark.
