    Sata drives

    Hello all im new to this forum and need a bit of help please
    I have a pc with a Asus A8N-SLI premium mother board opteron cpu and did have 2 IDE hard drives C drive was my main drive and i had a second drive as storage, My C drive packed in so i decided to fit a 500 Gig Sata drive to replace it but now i want to fit a second 500 Gig sata drive for storage can i fit drive and format it and just use for starage or do i need to set up a Raid array.

    You can use it in the same way you used the PATA drives as two distinct drives. You could also set it up as a RAID array. RAID-0 will speed up data transfers but it'll appear as 1 1tb drive. Raid-1 will have the drives mirror each other so if one drive goes down, you'll have the data on the other. This will give you only 500 gb total of storage.

    Thanks for the reply i think ill set it up as two drives, what is the best way to format second drive ?? use windows disk and format it that way or is there a better way

    You can just do it from Windows. No disk required.

    Right click the drive under Disk Management and choose Format...

    Disk Management = right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management
