I installed PCI Parallel Port as my default parallel port stopped working. First time it worked. After rebooting the system I found error message in my Device Driver > Others > Microsoft Rawport.

Communication to the printer has stopped.
Pl. suggest.

I have HP DeskJet 1120C and HPLaserJet 6P.
For Win 2000 Prof. I downloaded drivers for the both the printers from hp.com site
I uninstalled all the printer drivers and tried to reinstall the drivers, again I am getting the same problem (Microsoft RawPort). As a result there is no communication from the system to printer. I tried test print within the printer properties. As such printer is OK with self test.

Pl. check the images of error messages.

Also pl. clarifiy what is the default LPT1 port, is that which comes with Motherboard? I feel LPT2 is the port of PCI parallel port card, which I installed after my LPT1 stopped working. So during drivers installation I assigned for LPT2. Is that OK.

If anything that I should clarify from my side about the issue, pl. reply.

Do u think installing the printer drivers is the solution?

I downloaded the drivers from hp site.... months back..... they worked well....

OK, is there any method / software tool to check the communication to the printer. Test print is the only option to my knowledge.

don't uninstall your old drivers just try to install these these are the latest ones and are specifically designed to work with windows 2000
if that does not work ill have a look at other solutions

You do not need printer drivers.

It is the port card that needs a driver. Did the card come with a driver CD?

If the problem persists you can also get a Parallel to USB adapter.

Solution that seems to work for me so far is :
Install the Microsoft "Windows Fax Driver for NT" on the RawPort Device... and then, those rawports are gone and printers are working fine with no other annoyance (it seems).

Installing the driver (already into Window, no download nor disk required) : Choose from List -> Other Device -> Mircrosoft -> Windows Fax Driver For NT
