Inspiron 1501 unable to ID battery and charge.
I ran the battery down all the way to the point that the computer shut itself down. When I went to restart the laptop it gave me a screen after the diagnostic that said the system was unable to identify the battery and could not charge it. In so many words. Then you are given an option to go to the boot menu or the bios. None of which seem to do any good. The Boot menu is slow... I think it won't even go.
The computer can run off the AC adapter for the time being and even appears to charge the battery (more on that later).
It seems like a hardware issue that Dell would have to deal with. New battery might fix it I suppose. Would that be covered under their warranty? I can't say I have heard good things about their customer service.
Thanks,

Unfortunately, It's not worth much to me in this case.

I got the problem fixed. Dell support helped me out. Some guy from India controled the computer, did all this stuff to fast for e to comprehend and diagnosed the problem. Dell is sending a new battery.
If you have this problem just contact Dell Support and let them give you a new battery. I don't think this problem can be fixed otherwise.
Thanks,
