Computer wiill not start, Power Light on back of computer keeps flashing

The power light on the back of the computer keeps flashing and the computer will not start. When I unplug the power cord the light continues to flash for about 4-5 minutes slowing down and then stops. Does this mean my power supply is bad?

    Help
    Thanks

It was moved because it is a hardware issue and not a Windows issue.

What is the make and model of the computer and or the PSU?

Is it very hot? Or was it? Did it ever smell? Or smoke?

It is a sony Vaio, model VGC-RB42G.
It was not hot, we had a power failure but the computer was turned off, when the power came back on it was cycling the speakers on and off with the power light on back of computer. No smoke, no smell.

I would suspect the PSU needs to be replaced.

You could check the manual regarding any particular significance to the flashing light. If there is none I would assume it as an indication of failure.

You can get a PSU tester from most any electronics store.

You can also try to contact Sony especially if warranties are involved however most warranties disclaim "acts of nature" such as power failure and surges.

I have this same computer and this same problem occurred today. Only I had simply unplugged it. When I plugged it back in, the green light started flashing. Did you figure out what the problem was?

    Thanks
