    monitor problem with x300

    I've a viewsonic e71f crt monitor and a connect3d x300 256mb graphics card.
When the monitor is just plugged to the power it turns on, states that it has no input and goes to standby. When i plug the analog cable in, it just makes a clicking sound (like its switching refresh rates) and turns off, and pressing the power button doesn't turn it back on.
When this problem started, it kept on making the clicking sound without the display coming on.
I also noticed some smoke coming off either a capacitor or a diode (my bet is on capacitor, but they're so close that i can't be 100%) whenever I turned the computer on with the monitor connected to it.
Its not a resolution/refresh rate issue since the monitor doesn't turn on during the boot sequence either.
I connected another CRT monitor to the same card and its working fine.
One more thing. I connected the faulty CRT to a toshiba notebook, and it worked fine. and the resolution was set at 1024x768 with a refresh rate of 60hz.
At first I thought that the monitor was the source of the problem, but I'm beginning to think that the graphics card could be at fault as well.
