I was running an intel 2.0 gig processor and decided to upgrade to a 2.6 gig intel processor. The price was right and I wanted to make the move to a faster chip. I switched the chips and all seemed well, but when I check the specs under properties of my computer, I am reading intel processor pentium 2.6, and under that it reads 2.0 gig.
What is my speed really?????
did I screw this up or what?
Is there a way to check the speed of my new chip?
Thanks

Try CPU_Z
Just a possibility that your motherboard only supports up to 2GB.
Do you know the make and model of the motherboard?
That will be in CPU_Z as well under Mainboard.
Properties under My Computer usually shows two readings when one is overclocking. It shows the stock and the actual overclock. In your case it apparently is indicating an underclock.
yes sir,
Asus, P4G8X deluxe.
Reading that manual:

Should be no problem. Is your new CPU rated as "Hyper Threading"? If so you need to set this in the BIOS. This is also assuming a minimum of XP SP1.
You might also try the latest BIOS (1006) if you do not have it:

Version 1006 2003/06/24 update
Product: Motherboard
Series: Socket 478
Model: P4G8X Deluxe
There have been two Betas released after 1006 but 1006 specifically noted "New CPU's".
