    Hard Disk size discrepancy

I bought a new computer from Lenovo (x61t) with a 60GB hard drive. When I look at the hard disk space it shows that the capacity of the drive is only 50.2GB. Of that, only about 39GB is available. Is there a way that I can regain more hard disk space? I have only installed MS Office 2003. No other large programs. Thanks.

As to the first discrepancy it is explained here:

There is probably also a Recovery partition taking perhaps 5 to 10 GB.

Disk Management should show the breakdown:

right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management.

I still don't understand why I'm missing about 10 GB of space. There is a 5.6 GB partition which takes it down to 50 GB. Where is the other 10 GB?? It doesn't say anything about that. Thanks for the help.
