Angry Can't boot from SCSI on IBM Server...

    Hello :)

Long time since I've been here last, but I'm glad to be back! Time to kick some ass in arcade :p

Ok now with my problem. I have IBM xSeries 232 server. I bought it without the HDDs, so I got one 18gb SCSI and I plugged it into the top hot-swap bay. I also have an PCI Adaptec SCSI controller plugged in, but nothing connected.

So, at first I would always get the SCSISelect Utility showing me all SCSI devices in the system (adapter, tape backup drive and my segate hdd), so
I went ahead and started installing Windows 2000 Server. I got to the first
reboot after which I normally would get into the graphical part of the setup, but nothing happened :/

I also used a LiveCD to verify that the HDD is still visible and that there is some data on it (Windows files) and yes, indeed it's all there, so I guess I am lost somewhere in the process of telling the computer where to boot from!!!

Also the SCSISelect Utility disappeared at some point so I can't even access the SCSI config :S

    HEEELLLPPP!!!

    Thanks :)

Sounds to me like you ignored the screen during Windows 2000 setup that says something like 'Press F6 to select additional storage controllers'. This is right at the beginning before it starts copying files. You have to insert a floppy disk at this point with the driver for the Adaptec SCSI card (unless it's an early type that Windows 2000 recognises).

I'm also assuming that you're sure that the Adaptec SCSI card is bootable - many aren't! You wouldn't have a problem during the first part of Windows setup before the reboot because the first boot is from CD.

    Hey!

Yeah, I do know about the SCSI drivers step of the setup, but then if there was no driver to the SCSI Drive present the setup shouldn't let me format the drive and install the files at first, since it wouldn't recognize the drive, right?

Also, the drive is connected to the front hot-swap panel, not the Adaptec SCSI controller.

    Thanks for interest
