Yet another "computer won't turn on" problem
Hi. I'm new to this whole thing and my knowledge of computer problems are very limited. So anyways here is my problem:
I have had my computer for about 2 years and and it has been working fine since. One day, I come home and try to turn it on and it won't. It's not displaying anything so I decide to check it out. I wasn't sure what to look for but here is a description of what I saw as detailed as possible.
~When I came home that day there was a funny smell coming from it. When I opened the case to check it out, there is a green light that is lit and a small humming sound. When I go to press the power button nothing happens. Nothing is spinning or running. All I get is that little green light on the motherboard and the hum. I am not sure what the problem could be except for that the PSU was shorted out.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? and if so, how to fix it?
It would be great appreciated. Thanks.

sounds like power PSU as gone , the only problems that might have taken a few other components with it, what manufactor is the PSU, sometimes Generic PSu's aren't what they are quoted at in wattage, try another PSU, 400+ and see what happens, let me how you got on.

the manufacturer is Bestec and an ATX-250-12E. max wattage is 250. i got on using my laptop.

how are you using a PSU designed for a desktop computer on a laptop?
