My friend just had a new hard drive installed in his sony vaio laptop and he windows XP doesn't recognize the hard drive. Anyone know what to do to fix this?

So a new hard drive was installed?

Was XP installed as well?

Was this done at some shop?

If he had a new drive and XP installed on it then what exactly do you mean by XP doesn't recognize the hard drive?

well im going to look at it tomorrow so i will have more info then but he told me some shop put a new HD in it and now windows doesn't recognize the HD. I'll have more info later but im just trying to get a head start on the problem

As Windows runs off the hard drive Windows would have to see it if it is running.

As it is a laptop there is only one hard drive to see.

If he is saying that he cannot install Windows because the XP CD cannot find the hard drive then that is a totally different question.

If the latter is the case see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.
