    slave h/drive

hi guys,i have installed an hitachi hard drive as a slave, set the correct jumpers and switched on. the bios is detecting the h/drive,and is set to auto but there is nothing in "my computer",i am not even getting a new hardware found message.i am running it on a p4 1.8 and win/home.
    any help would be appreciated.

update.i was looking at some older post's and found the solution.i found someone had a similar problem and was advised to go into diskmgmt.msc,i did this and found the h/drive was not initialized and unallocated, having sorted that out and formated the drive all is now o/k.i was under the impression that win xp would find new h/ware and install it.am i mistaken?

Right click on "My Computer" click on manage then in "Computer Management" click "Disk Management", this will show all Hard drives, if the hard drive you installed shows it has unallocated (Black Line). right click on it and format it. Hope that helps

Thanks for the update and glad all is well.

As you discovered new drives need to be formatted for XP to use them.

Let us know if we can help further in the future.
