Unfortunately I can't D/L and run that program as the machine will no longer connect to the internet (MB won't recognise the network card or even the dial-up modem). Hence I think I'm going to have to write this one off - as I said fortunately I think i can save most of my files, so it's new PC time I think...
Thanks for all your advice; you've been a great help to me.
If you download the file with the PC you are using now and burn Everest to a CD, then you should be able to copy it to that computer - if you still want to mess with it.
Nah, I think i'll leave it and get a new one... after all that! In any case my laptop is ancient and lacks a CD burner - I suppose i could use someone else's machine or find a way of downloading to floppies but to be honest it's all becoming more hassle than it's worth and probably time I treated myself to a newer MB with a decent processor and a bigger HD anyway.
Thanks for all your help on this and please feel free to close the thread if you wish.
It's too big for floppies.
Definitely a great excuse! Don't forget for best performance RAM and decent graphics is just as important, if not more so, than a decent CPU. IMO, the "sweet spot" for RAM with today's systems is 1Gb/core. So, if you get a dual core CPU, and most are, I recommend at the very least, 1Gb, but 2Gb would be better - this is especially true is you will be using Vista. And with graphics, well, more is better. Just something to think about.probably time I treated myself to a newer MB with a decent processor and a bigger HD anyway.
As requested, I will close this thread. Feel free to start a new one if you have questions concerning new purchases.
