Exclamation D600 lattitude runs very slow

    Hi All

My d600 lattitude is running very slow.

    Spec:

    Intel Pentium M 1.4ghz
    256 of ram
    32mb radeon 9000 mobile Graphics.

I think it might be low ram or hard drive failing as the Hdd gets very hot.

I have opened it up and cleaned the heatink to removed Dust that forms there so i know its not that.

    Any suggestions?

My properties page of my computier is showing the its an intel pentium m 1.4ghz but at the bottom of the information it is stating 587mhz

    What does this mean?

With only 256Mb of RAM, and on-board graphics, it is no wonder it is running slow, even if full speed. But now with it running at half speed, I feel your pain. Do note that laptop CPUs are designed to slow down to conserve power, and when over heated. If you are sure the system is clean of heat trapping dust and dirt, and your are sure your battery is fully charged and the system is clean of malware, then might want to make sure your fans are running full speed.

If you do not have a full arsenal of anti-malware tools, see Cleaning Out Malware.

My Hdd gets hot but thats about it. is there any way to stop it from running at half speed as the hot Hdd is a known problem with the dell d600.

Actually, its a great feature. Remember, in spite of what any laptop maker tells you, laptops are business machines and a primary requirement of road warriors is long battery life. By reducing bus speed, power consumption is reduced significantly. Do note that Speedstep should only be enabled when running on battery, not when running on the power supply.

At any rate, I am glad you got it going and thanks for the followup.
