Its a familiar problem here but my sound wont work
I saw in another thread to use the EVEREST programme in order to identify the PCI.
I am running Windows 98 2nd ed. and I do not have the CD.
Everest identified this:
Analog Devices AD1885 @ Intel 82801BA ICH2 - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-0]
If you could please point me in the direction of a driver to download I would really appreciate it.
Thanks very much in advance!!

The best source for audio drivers is the computer manufacturers web site.
If the computer was custom built then go to the motherboard manufacturers web site.
Go to the driver download section and insert your model number. The drivers will be there.

Hi thanks for your fast reply.
I found a driver which is apparently meant to work, but on restart it asks for the Win98 SE disc which I no longer have. Its looking for the file soundrec.cnt. Could you please point me in the direction of that?
Thanks once again.. Seriously computer illiterates like me should not be allowed to do computer cleanups :P We cause much more trouble than its worth!

The sound logo is missing from the system tray and when ever I click "Volume Control" in the start menu nothing happens..
Please help when you can. Dont worry I'm not really in a rush, its just the inconvienience thats frustrating..

I recommend looking at the computer manufacturers' web site for drivers.
And or ID you particular motherboard and check that manufacturer.

Hi Jephree. Thanks for that. I followed your instruction when you first recommended that. Now I am just missing the file mentioned above that seems to only be available on the win98 SE disc.
Cheers

What is the make and model of the computer?
That file comes up missing for various generic drivers.
If the manufacturers' driver is calling it out then I guess you need to find a '98SE disk.
