When I put CDs into the drive they show up as blank CDs in My Computer. It happens with all types. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

It's been like this for quite a while, it's an old computer. I only just started using it again, it's been sitting around untouched for six months or so.

The CDs work fine in my stereo.

I haven't tried a lens cleaner, I'll try that soon.

if you say the pc is old then it might be the asme as with my dvd rom like 2 days ago i had to repair my windows and my dvd drive wouldnt read it so i had to take my mums dvd drive to install it and a friend who works with pcs hes very smart in all of this he said that the dvd drive has serevd its time and will need replacing soon so maybe yours has served its time and just needs replacing =/ but check the lense cleaner first and after you might want to check the bios too

And do you know if it's expensive to replace the drive?

lol its about 20£ they come cheap and if you are not experianced in bios i do not recomed you tryniog to change anything since you may do some serious damage so rather just ask smoeone you know to do this for you or just dont go into bios without good guidance
