New Monitor but PC wont accept DVI

I recently bought a new ASUS MW221u monitor and when I connect it to my PC via DVI the computer wont boot, it just gets to a certain point and the monitor goes into standby and the PC restarts. It works fine when I use the VGA connection.
    MY Specs are:
    AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200
    2 x Nvidia 7600GS in SLI
    2GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM
    ASUS CrossHair MOBO
I have the latest drivers for the Graphics Cards, and I'm sure the cards are compatable with DVI as they both posses DVI inputs. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

    Hi Dan,

I'm clutching at straws a bit here but do you know if the monitor and the graphics card are both the same type of DVI standard? There is DVI-D and DVI-I and, whilst I would assume that they have different connectors and couldn't be easily mixed up, it would be worth checking.

Also, can you boot into Safe Mode?

Sorry bout the delay had a nice visit from the BSOD. Anyway, I'm not sure what connection they are, how would I tell, all the manual says about the monitor is that its DVI and HDCP capable...And no I'm unable to boot in safe mode, it wont allow me to reach that point where I press F8 to get that option. Any help would be great. thanks.

The main difference between DVI-I and DVI-D is DVI-I allows for analog and digital over the same cable, DVI-D is digital only. But this shouldn't be the problem. You might want to go back into analog (VGA) and set to a different resolution. But before tearing out your hair, I would try that monitor on another PC with DVI, and another DVI monitor on your PC. At this point, we don't know if it's the monitor, or your graphics cards.

I recently read an article in PCUser showing the different types of DVI I've found that the Graphics Card I have has a DVI-I (Dual Link) Connection and the monitor has a DVI-I (Single Link) Connection, is this enough to cause a problem? Thanks.

P.S the attachment show the different types of DVI, the top Pic is the one on the Monitor the second one down is the Graphics Card.
Any help would be super great!
