    Travelmate 2700 screen...

Hi all, new to the forums so go easy please!

I have an Acer Travelmate 2700 on which the screen randomly fades out (to blue, not black) or scrambles. Gently pressing the top right corner of the screen usually sorts this, but it's slowly getting worse.

I have a feeling it may be the cable at fault but was just wondering if anyone knows different or if there are any common faults with the screen itself before I go wading in with a new cable.
    Cheers, Dan.

    Hi Dan,

I suspect that you haven't had any reply for the past couple of days because all of us that have read this thought "Hmmm, that's weird - haven't heard of that before" !

It may well be the cable but it might be something a bit more major. To my knowledge, there aren't many components involved in putting the image on your screen. It all starts in the graphics card/chip, goes through the cable and then gets onto the screen, with the help of the inverter and backlight. The cable, inverter and backlight can all be replaced reasonably cheaply but the graphics card/chip and the screen usually turn out to be expensive.

If you aren't sure what the cause of the fault might be and would prefer to have it professionally tested, one of our trading partners is a laptop repair specialist - a Limited company with a shop and a team of guys looking at problems like this all day long. We can have the laptop collected from you by courier, professionally tested and returned to you for £35 + VAT. You will get a quote for whatever is wrong, which it is up to you whether you want to proceed with or not, but the quotes are usually very reasonable.

If you want to have a go at fixing it yourself, then I would start with the cable as you suggested. It's the cheapest and easiest part to replace.
