Unhappy Harddrive making a faint clicking noise...

Okay well recently one of my harddrives has been making a really weird clicking noise whenever i try to watch a movie. The computer does not freeze up, but the video freezes up and stops. Whats really weird is if i pause the froozen video that clicking noise ceases. Now ive gone to a bunch of sites and they basically said that the harddrive is about to crash but i dont see my harddrive being as severely messed up as theirs ( since its only occuring when i play a video file ). Again, it ONLY happens when i try to watch a movie or something. The computer continues to run fine and it does not stall or anything its just the video and the weird noise thats odd. I have backed up all my important stuff (for the most part) just in case it decides to die on me. Does anyone have any suggestions or prior experiences with such an issue?

The manufacturer of the drive will have a diagnostic that would be worth running.

If you don't know the manufacturer look in the Device Manager under (+) Disk drives.

right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager

Hard drive clicking is a general indication of mechanical issues. As to the video it might be trying to run faster than otherwise. Is the Video on the hard drive itself?

Yes the video is on the harddrive that is doing the clicking. I actually have 2 hard drives, One 80gb that i use for all the system stuff.. and i have a MAXTOR 200GB SATA150 7200RPM 8MB which is where i basically save all my miscallaneous (spelling ) stuff, e.g movies.. music...txt files...pictures...e..t...c. and its where the clicking sound is coming from.

Maxtor now owned by Seagate offers this diagnostic:

Creating the bootable floppy is the best way to run it.

My shytie floppydrive is running alittle funky. "A:/ drive is not accessable, No ID address mark was found on the Floppy Disk", yet its a new floppy disk. Could i run that seatool diagnostic if i save it on either harddrive? or is it best if i download it only to a Floppy disk and not the P.C?

It is most conclusive in DOS (floppy) but try the Windows version and see what comes up.

Well oddly enough the HD isnt even a Maxtor. I was reading over the "Help" section and normally the Seagate and Maxtor HD show up with a GOLD icon and both my HD show up with a silver icon. Nevertheless i ran a Short Drive test and one of my HD failed ( it was under the SCSI/FC/SAS, Serial - B412MFPH, Model number - B200M0, Firmware Revision - BANC ). In the help section it says to consider running Seatools for DOS if any tests fail. Given the fact that my Floppy is somehow not wanting to read a Brand new floppydisk for some reason im basically back to square 1...

B200M0 is listed as a Maxtor drive:

Perhaps you can create the floppy on another computer?

Most manufacturer's will have error codes on the DOS version and most will honor those codes as to a replacement drive.
