What is the exact Pavilion model?
Have you run the HP diagnostics?

Links from HP. The last one is the diagnostic program.

Also when you say "lately" do you have any idea what might have caused this?
Any new hardware or software? Have you tried a System Restore to a point prior to the problem?

Re: laptop DVD drive pops open on its own!
It sounds like there are two possible problems. One, the eject button is stuck on the drive itself.
Or two sub-problems software-wise. You could have a program on your computer that randomly opens the cd-door (its even possible to open the door via HTML, which probably wouldn't apply here as it takes a bunch of hassle to be able to create an exe file from html and its related technologies). Or, and I know this from experience, some stupid script-kiddie is hacking you via a trojan horse they somehow implanted on your computer. There are tools out there that gives someone access to your computer and can open your drive. You could get Avast virus scanner and check. You could also go offline and see if it occurs again.
But, more than likely its a stuck eject button or some program running in the background.
