    Internal or external modem?

If external, is it USB or Serial?

hi there if you scan for adware prior to connecting to phone line
even now I always scan for adware before and after surfing net.
I never leave my phone line connected to computor when not there.
when you next get on line down load lavasoft adware
    its free.

    hi there
no its not an anti virus
its adware it clears the traking cookies.
which send there information out first before
    allowing your computor to run.
avg or avast are good virus checkers.

Are you running the latest available drivers for the modem you have?

Do you know the make and model?

Did you get it from here?
    http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/driver.htm

If you're unsure of the exact modem you possess, download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare)

This program will provide all the details you need to identify your modem.

Note also that the Universal Driver package for (XP and down) should suffice.
