hi, i installed the following file "CR94510J.86A.0045.EB.EXE" from the link u suggested. but this too didn't work.
In the BIOS menu i'm not finding any column to opt for the splash screen.
I found this site "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256". Cld this be the problem i am facing

Is that the link you meant? Your motherboard does not support more than one CPU.
I would not worry too much about the splash screen not showing up - I don't see that as a "fault". It may just be part of a rapid boot setting in the BIOS.
Your speed problem is hardware related - either a setting in the BIOS, or a fault with a BUS dependent device such as one of your RAM modules, the CPU, or the motherboard itself.
I think you should go through your BIOS menus page by page and look for settings that may affect your speed - these include frequency and voltage settings. I recommend they be set to default or automatic.
You may try resetting your BIOS - in your case, I don't see a reset/clear BIOS jumper so yours is cleared by pulling the battery for a minute then putting it back in. Make sure the computer is powered off AND UNPLUGGED. Use a clean cloth to wipe skin oils off the battery and during reinstall - I use a clean sock over my hand.
If it still does not work, then all I can suggest is taking it to a shop and have them look at it. Sorry. Perhaps someone else reading has an idea.
