    Boot up failure

    Hi all,
I've been having a problem and I'm pretty sure it's my motherboard which I've been unhappy with since I bought the blighter. When I turn on the pc, It boots past the POST and setup options but hangs after that with a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen. It's annoying but I can restart and it boots up fine. Very occasionally (like today), it won't work pressing the reset button; it just keeps freezing at the cursor. I had to turn the pc off and come back after 15 mins.
Also, and I don't know if it's related but my m/board seems to forget it's settings and boots up using the default settings. I've tried replacing the CMOS battery but it's still happening now and then.
I've had great help before on this forum and hopefully will again with this pickle!
    Thanks in anticipation!

have you tried removing the battery and all connections to the motherboard clearing the CMOS with the jumper leaving it about 10 minutes to see how that goes.

also you could remove all cards, RAM etc from the motherboard and reseat them

    have you overclocked the board?

    Hello
I've had the battery out for about 20 mins (new one was wrapped up nice and tight in plastic!), but haven't disconnected all connections and cards. I could give that a try and see what happens. Also I don't overclock but I have seen an error message once about overclocking failed. Could the board be overclocked as standard?
    Again, thanks for your help.

it might be worth looking for any bios updates and resetting all bios back to default when done.

I should imagine that could be a last resort if halfway through flashing the BIOS anything happens you're up a creek without a paddle.

    the board was it new?

try removing all conections and leaving the board for all power etc to drain, clesr the CMOS with the jumper and see how that goes
