    Temperamental Sound

    Whats going on!?

Laptop sound is being really temperamental, sometimes it works, fine ,sometimes it wont work at all!

When i boot up the laptop sound normally works OK, but after a few min the task bar flickers off, then on again, (sometimes when it comes back on its in windows classic mode, and programs open up with the task bars as if i was running in widows classic mode)

After that when i try to play any audio i get a error message saying my sound device is not working or may be in use my another program. Rebooting normally fixes it for a few min, but then it does it again.

It did it once or twice when i first got the laptop, but i system restored back a few days and it stopped. A few months later, problem is back, and system restore doesnt seem to fix the problem, have changed any drivers or anything so am not sure what is causing it

Laptop is a Hp Pavillion Dv2188ea

    Dxdiag has three sound tabs
Conexant audio output which is the default device
    Blue tooth audio
and High quality blue tooth audio

    Any Ideas?

Sorry for the non-response and I don't have much to add.

Good to see you about though!

All be it an extreme solution have you considered a Repair install or Restoring the factory setup?

    Does it happen when:
The laptop is pluged into ac?
or when it is only operating off of the battery?
or it does not matter at all?

Have you tried to look for all updates for that laptop at hp's site?

Have looked at all the updates on hp's site, it seems to happen when its plugged in and when its on mains power, although i VERY rairly use it not plugged in to be honest.

I've tried untunstalling the driver and reinstalling it, when the error occurs ive discovered that windows dosent think there is a driver for the sound card ( or so i think)

I have a copy of Vista on order... well it came free wit hthe laptop and ihave only just gotten around to applying for the disk, so am waiting for that to arrive ( in abotu 6 weeks) which will hopefully fix it.

    Thanks anyway

Just a little update, Hp offer email tech support, which is far better than there telephone support i must say, guarantee a response within one hour ( as long as u email during business hours)

they have sent me a list of things to do to fix the sound card, will try them when i get a chance and post back with an update!
