I just bought some Maxell DVD-R's..( 4.7gb 16x120 write once single sided disks) I'm trying to store digital pictures and files on them and my computer won't recognize them. When I try to save a file to my DVD drive (H) I get a message to please insert a disk into drive H...the DVD Rom drive.
I don't have a DVD/RW..just a DVD ROM..however I ask the guy at Walmart where I bought the disks if they would work for just copying files on and he said yes.
Anybody know what the problem is?
Thanks for any info.
Did you say you only have a DVD ROM? If that is the case, you won't be able to save file to DVDs. Remember, Walmart is famous for giving dirt cheap wages paid to its employees. The advise given might be comparable to those wages earned.

Yep only a DVD Rom...actually I ask a guy in Walmart that was shopping in the DVD disk area and he told me it would work..so I bought the cheapest ones I could find to see if he was right. I'm going to install a DVD/RW or whatever I need that will do it all in one. Do you know which one that is?
If I get this computer upgraded and it works good I'm going to get a new monitor and will install the DVD/whatever then. If my upgrade is not satifactory I'm going to build another..will know next wk.
I would say any name brand 16X Dual Layer DVD±RW that will do CDs. Look at Sunday paper, or do search on Internet from a reliable outfit.
OK, Thanks..and just to get this straight..if I want to copy songs or DVD's..burn I guess..do I also need something else?
If you want to copy songs, then you only need a CD burner. But, prices are down now; so I would get a burner that can do both CDs and DVDs, using all formats. However, the CD burners should be realy cheap.
