Dead keyboard
My keyboard on my Dell PC (WinXP) has ceased working. I plugged a working keboard in and still no keyboard. What do I look for next to solve this problem? The problem must be with the ps2/2 plug, or something internal in the computer, or maybe a corrupted driver file. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi and welcome to D-A-L
did the keyboard just stop working, is the mouse working OK?
-
Is your keyboard PS2? If so, check the pins. Sometimes they get bent and that will certainly create problems. If it's USB, try another port. Keyboards don't normally just quit. Good luck!

The keyboard just quit responding. It's as if the computer doesn't even recognize that it is connected. Everything else works properly including the mouse. Thanks for replying. Any ideas on how to fix this?

do you get any lights on the keyboard?
have you tried your keyboard on another machine?
when you first boot up do you get any messages about no keyboard connected?
-
No keyboard lights. Haven't tried the keyboard on another machine, but I have connected another keyboard know to be working to the pc, and still no response. When I boot up there are no messages about keyboard not connected. Thanks again for trying to help me. Any ideas?

do you have a password to get into your account, have you got admin rights?
disconnect the keyboard power up the machine and see if you get any messages.
if you've got admin right and no password try going to control panel >> System >> Hardware >> Device manager right click on keyboard try uninstall, plug the keyboard in (make sure all pins are OK) start up and see if it find a keyboard
