5.1 Speaker Problems!
Hi,
I have recently purchased Logitech X-530 5.1 surround speakers, I was worried that i didn't have the right soundcard, but after reading this tutorial - http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/268/1
I learnt i could do this...
Front cable (green): To green jack (line out).
Rear cable (blue or black): To blue jack (line in).
Center/Subwoofer cable (orange, yellow or pink): To pink jack (mic in).
Both my front left and right and my subwoofer are producing sound, but there is no sound coming through my centre speaker or the left and right rear speakers!!!
Does anyone know how i can get sound through them please??
Thank you! Azza

We need to know the exact model number of your sound card. It is the sound card that determines which connector to use on the card for the surround/center/sub speakers, not the color of the plugs or sockets - for which there are no real standards. Most sound cards then come with a driver package that includes the software needed to configure the card to work with whatever type speaker system you have. This is important because on some cards, the same socket may be configured for output or input, depending on what is plugged into it.

Thankyou for replying,
can you tell me how i go about finding the model number of my sound card? I think its called - 'Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)'. I can't be sure though. Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thanx

Do you really have a card, or are you using the sound built into the motherboard? You can tell by where you connect the speakers. If you do in the rear I/O Panel area, in the same panel area as your mouse and keyboard, then that is on-board and you look in your motherboard manual.
If you have an add-in card, it will have a separate manual. You will have too look on the board for brand and model, if no manual available, then go out the maker's website and download the manual.
It sounds like you have on-board.

Thnx again for your reply! I think it is on-board, i have a driver CD that come with my pc, but in the sounds folder there are 10 different folders! There is one called - Avance AC'97, which is the most similar to the audio device on my pc, but thtere are a number of different things in that folder, and i don't know where to go for a model number?
I have my PC's system serial number if that helps?
Thnx! Azza

Sorry I did not reply earlier - I did not get notice of a response.
Belarc Advisor will tell you much about your system. Look under the Multimedia section for your sound.
Also, go to Start > Run, and enter dxdiag the check the "Sound" tab. While that is running, you might as well run through each tab and run any tests you see.

Thnx again for your reply!
I ran the tests and everything is fine. I used that Belarc Advisor and this is what it showed under the multimedia tab...
AVerMedia, AVerTV WDM TvTuner
AVerMedia, AVerTV WDM Video Capture (7134)
Logitech Mic (IM/Connect)
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)
Make any sense to you?
Thnx again, Azza

as it is onboard sound, could you please provide us with the PC make and model so we can find your drivers?

no problem
try downloading this: http://www.softwarepatch.com/utiliti...-security.html
after it is done, un-zip it to a destination which you will remember (e.g desktop) and there should be a setup.exe file, double click it.
Hope this helps
